Early life[edit]
Ayesha Takia was born in Mumbai on April 10th 1986. Her father's name is Nishit, a Gujarati and her mother's name is Faridah, who is half Maharashtrian and half Caucasian British.

Career[edit]
Takia began her career as a model when she was 15, appearing in the famous "I am a Complan Boy! I’m a Complan Girl!" campaign alongside niman jama and also in Falguni Pathak's "Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye" music video. When she was 18, she appeared in the music video "Shake It Daddy", which brought her to the attention of Bollywood, and a few film offers followed. She signed a contract to appear in Socha Na Tha, then for Taarzan: The Wonder Car. However, delays making Socha Na Tha meant that Taarzan was released first and was therefore her “debut” film. She won the Filmfare Best Debut Award in 2004 for her performance in the film.

Takia has appeared in a number of films that did poorly at the box office. However, she has been highly praised for her work in the 2006 Dor, a smaller budget film in which she plays the role of a young widowed Rajasthani woman living in a traditional joint family. She went on to win several awards for her performance in the film, including the Zee Cine Critics Award for Best Actress.

Apart from Bollywood, Takia has also appeared in the 2005 Telugu film Super, with Tollywood star Akkineni Nagarjuna, for which she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award (Telugu). Her most recent hit was Prabhu Deva's Wanted, co-starring Salman Khan, which emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of 2009. The film was the third-highest grossing movie of the year and her role met with positive reviews.

In 2011, she starred in Mod, which met with a good response. As of 2012, she was hosting the musical-reality show Sur Kshetra.

Personal life[edit]

On 1 March 2009, Takia married Farhan Azmi, a restaurateur and the son of politician Abu Asim Azmi, a Samajwadi Party leader, in an Islamic Nikah ceremony. The couple had originally planned to marry in December 2008, but the wedding was delayed due to the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The couple have a boy named Mikail, born on 6 December 2013. Farhan and Ayesha have known each other since childhood.

She is very much active on social media, especially Twitter and has been a supporter for wildlife protection.[citation needed] In April 2014, Ayesha denounced her father-in-law, Samajwadi party MLA Abu Azmi's comment that rape victims should also be punished.[3]

In a public statement, she has claimed to be a vegan while posing for a vegan ad for PETA India.[4]

Early life[edit]
Jeremiah was born in an Anglo-Indian Roman Catholic family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.[2] Her father is a lawyer at the High Court in Chennai.[3] She has one younger sister who lives and works at Leuven, Belgium as a research assistant.[4] She was raised near Chennai and went to Sacred Heart Matriculation Higher Secondary School and graduated from Women's Christian College.[5] She said that she was quite a geek and wanted to be a psychiatrist until she completed her 12th board exams.[4]

Jeremiah learnt classical piano when she was age of eight. At the age of 10, Andrea was a part of a Jackson Five-style troupe called Young Stars which formed the base of her early singing and music composing career. She was also a theatre artist in her college and appeared in several stage plays organised by The Madras Players and EVAM.[6][7] She also organised a company The Show Must Go On (TSMGO Productions) to promote live art and artistes.[8] Andrea said that as a college student, she had turned down every film offer she got as she had no intention of becoming a film actor.[9]

Acting[edit]
She began her theatre career with Girish Karnad's Nagamandala. She has performed all over India. After rendering a song in Gautham Menon's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu,[5] he asked her to play a lead female character in his next venture Pachaikili Muthucharam.[7] Pachaikili Muthucharam was a film adaptation of James Siegel's novel Derailed,[10] with Andrea portraying Kalyani, a homemaker, whose husband engages in an affair and is blackmailed. Jeremiah was selected for the role after actresses Simran, Shobana and Tabu were approached.[10][11]

She signed for Selvaraghavan's fantasy-adventure film Aayirathil Oruvan,[7] which released in early 2010. In 2011, she agreed to play a minor supporting role in Venkat Prabhu's multi-starrer Mankatha, which was released in August 2011.[12] In 2013, she made her debut in Malayalam cinema with Rajeev Ravi's romance film Annayum Rasoolum. She has rated this film as the best in her career.[13] She played a role in Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam and will reprise the role in its sequel, which is to release in 2015.[14]

In 2015, Andrea was cast alongside Mohanlal in Loham, directed by Ranjith. This would be her third Malayalam film, and first with Mohanlal.

Singing[edit]
Andrea has stated that her focus was always on music [9] and that she chose to be a professional singer and that acting happened by chance.[19] In 2005, she ventured into playback singing in feature films.[20] She has sung several popular songs for composers Harris Jayaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Devi Sri Prasad and G. V. Prakash Kumar [21] and has also received nominations at Filmfare and Vijay Awards for few of them. She considers the song "Maalai Neram" as the most challenging she has sung.[9]

Composing[edit]
Apart from singing under other composers' direction, Andrea Jeremiah also produces her own music. She composed, wrote and sung a single, titled "Soul of Taramani", as a promo for her Tamil romantic-drama Taramani. She has composed several music themes, songs and albums.
