Early life[edit]
Arpita/Arpitha was a student of the Sarada Mission School and a graduate of the Scottish Church College in Kolkata. She was an active participant of cultural programs in school, such as acting on stage.[1]

Career[edit]
Arpita/Arpitha has worked in several Bengali movies. She came into the limelight after the release of Mama Bhagne opposite famous Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee in 2009. In 2010 she was starred in Jor Jar Muluk Tar directed by Haranath Chakraborty.[2] She has also acted in some Oriya movies. Bande Utkala Janani is one of her most critically acclaimed Oriya movie. She has also appeared in advertisement films of some Indian brands.

Washington, DC, May 12, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) Ananya Paul caught up with Bengali film actress Arpita Mukherjee in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, India where Arpita is shooting for one of her upcoming films. We have previously watched Arpita in director Sanghamitra Chaudhuri's (interview) Rose Villa and Jeena The Endless Love (Buy Bengali Film DVD in USA) co-starring Soham, Abhishek Chatterjee and Indrani Haldar, and her latest film Bidehir Khonje Rabindranath also directed by Sanghamitra opened in theaters in Kolkata a few days ago marking the first film release commemorating Gurudev's 150th birth anniversary. Arpita says her taking up acting as a profession is somewhat accidental. Like children growing up in many Bengali families, she took singing and dancing lessons early on. Being a graduate of a residential school, Arpita was an active participant of cultural programs in school including acting on stage, and her eclectic interests range from acting, singing, dancing to recitation and elocution. Later when she went to college, acting opportunities presented themselves and Arpita's tryst with a career in acting commenced.

Bidehir Khonje Rabindranath focuses on an unusual aspect of Rabindranath Tagore - a man who went through great personal losses (his wife, a daughter, a son, and a sister-in-law all passed away) and attempted to establish contact with his loved ones by performing planchette sessions. Along with Arpita Mukherjee, the film stars Abhishek Chatterjee, Souryadeep Ghosh (interview), Abhinandan Dutta, Indrani Chakrabarty, Sangeeta Sonali and Angshuman Gupta. The crew members are Sanghamitra Chaudhuri (Director), Bappa Das Gupta, Arijit Maitra, Siddhartha Dey, Debasish Choudhuri, Ujjwal Mukherjee, Mihir Sarkar, Rann Sarkar, Ashique Taha, Tathagata Sengupta, Sambhu Munshi and others.

Partner (Bengali: পার্টনার "Force") (2008) is a Bengali film Directed by Shankar Ray.This film is more or less same as more than four decades ago in 1964 a film named “Jiban Kahini based on a story by Shaktipada Rajguru was a smashing hit. Partner is all about a funny and dangerous contract between two haggards Dasu and Ayan (Jeet). The two met at the Sealdah North Railway Tracks while arriving for suicide at the same time. While Dasu (Santu Mukhopadhyay) realising his faults, Ayan (Jeet) remains bent on ending his life. Dasu is a rich man turned poor (after his only son's death) who is constantly truncated by debtors while Ayan is a frustrated rich brat who is devastated after crushing in his business (share and stocks) and being betrayed by his girlfriend Rina. Dasu convinces Ayan not to commit suicide at the heat of the moment when Ayan still insists to die Dasu sorts out a peculiar contract between themselves. He begs Ayan to die exactly after three months. This is because Dasu, who is a part-time insurance agent, wants Ayan to buy a life insurance policy which would mature after three months. Dasu, meanwhile would pay the premium of 10 thousand rupees by any means whatsoever and after three months when Ayan would commit suicide Dasu would get the entire value of the insurance policy (Rs. 10 lacs) as Ayan's only nominee. Ayan evaluates Dasu's proposal and thinks to make some penance for his sins before his death. Ayan starts living in Dasu's residence for the next three months. Meanwhile Ayan falls in love with Dasu's only daughter Priya (Swastika Mukherjee) and Ayan's father Ramen Roy appoints his brother-in-law Gobordhan Ghoshal (private investigator, played by Kharaj Mukherjee) to find out his missing son. After lots of fun, frolic and confusion Ayan is barred by Dasu from committing suicide. Dasu's debts are cleared by the hearty Romen Roy while Ayan marries lady love Priya.
